When it comes to matters of parenting , it’s wise to remember each style used , can affect every aspect of your child’s life, right from how much your child weighs to how he or she feel about him or herself.

Therefore, it’s important to ensure your style in parenting supports and promotes a healthy growth and development. Simply, because the way you discipline and interact with your child will be of influence the rest of their life.

As previously stated each distinctive, parenting style is marked by a distinctive pattern of behaviors and communication in the child’s development.  I bet you will agree it’s about time we dive in and learn.

Authoritative Parenting.

This kind of parenting style is one highly recommended to use. This style merges the high expectations of the parent towards the child (behavior development, choices, freedom and responsibilities) and the high attention to the child as an individual.

As an authoritative parent one tends to,

  • Provide clear, reasonable expectations-explaining why you expect the child to behavior in a certain way
  • monitor the child’s behavior in a warm and loving manner.
  • Invest time and energy into preventing behavior problems before their start.
  • Mistakes are used as a chance to teach important life lessons rather than an opportunity for punishment.
  • Parents tend to gives limited choices, based on the child’s development ability, balancing freedom and responsibilities.
  • Use positive discipline strategies to reinforce good behavior (such as praise or through a reward system).

And as a result of using this kind of parenting style the outcome are:

  • The child tend adapt easily to situations that require co-operations.
  • Tends to perform well at school.
  • The child is more self-determined, co-operative, socially responsive, self –regulated.
